[Marilyn Roth] I believe that Elizabeth CROSS was born ca. 1744, and married in 1763, about a year before Queen Anne's Parish shows births of ch/o Marsham and Elizabeth: dau., b. 6 Jan. 1764; Thomas, b. 15 Je. 1765; & Marsham, b. July 1767.
She was dau/o Thomas & Sophia, & a sister of Joseph CROSS of "Pigpen." Thomas & Joseph CROSS signed Oath of Fidelity, 1778, PG Co., MD Will of Joseph CROSS was made in 1827 & pr. 23 Sep./27 Oct. 1830 [Index to Probate Records, PG Co., MD]. He named nephews Joseph Cross BELT, s/o Marsham, & Joseph BELT, s/o Osborn.
Richard MARSHAM made his will 14 Apr. 1713, pr. 7 May 1713, leaving a share of "Inclosure" to granddau. "Margrett" QUEEN. Catherine/Katherine MARSHAM m. Samuel QUEEN, whose will was pr. 18 Mar. 1711/2, St. Mary's County, MD Will named wf/ Katherine, father-in-law Richard MARSHAM, & ch. Saml., Marsham, Wm., Katharine, & Margret. [Maryland Calendar of Wills].
Fleming Co. Deed Book A:295 & A-2:304, 16 Dec. 1802, Margaret BELT, relict of Marsham BELT, deeded to Marsham, Jr., Marsham, Sr., died intestate. She agreed to relinquish her dower rights to real and personal property and agreed to receive 1/11 part of realty, four acres and 88 poles/rods, which Marsham purchased from her for $22.75. Marsham also purchased rights of other heirs.
Legally, an infant is anyone not of legal age. Marsham left Elizabeth, infant of unsound mind, whose guardian was Joseph Cross BELT, and at another time, Alice BELT's husband Jas. CHAPPELL.
