MD Calendar of Wills: William SMITH, Pr. Geo. Co., 4 Mar. 1739, 28 Nov. 1750...To son-in-law Joseph BELT, s/o Benjamin BELT.
There are possibly to more children of Joseph & Esther, [George and Wm. One Wm. was 21 in 1776.]
Prince George's County record Liber T, folio 364 for deposition wherein "Joseph Belt son of Benjamin" states his age as 18 years in 1734. (Prince George's Land Records).
Joseph does not appear as party to any deed in Prince George's County, and it is possible that he lived abroad for some time.
His son Middleton married in England.
The inventory of the personal estate of Joseph Belt, late of Montgomery County, deceased, was filed at Rockville, Maryland, 12 August 1793, and amounted to 309. 12s. 03d. Middleton Belt was his administrator (written Beall in error) Montgomery County Wills, Liber C, folio 208.
For sketch of Col Joseph Belt II see Maryland Historical Society Magazine, V 8 pages 195-202. This second Col Joseph Belt was old enough to figure in the Colonial Indian Wars as well as in the Revolutionary struggle.
