Notes for Benjamin BELT

He had made depositions in Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties, giving his age as 56 in 1738, 66 in 1748, 73 in 1755 and 83 in 1765. In Nov 1714 he was overseer of Highways for Patuxen Hundred. In Nov 1715 he was allowed 1000 pounds of tobacco for keeping Eliza Norman's child.

See "HISTORY OF WESTERN MARYLAND Page 982 for mention of his plantation named BELT BUCKLE. He was 66 years old in 1748 See Prince George's County (Liber E.E. ,foli o 713) and 73 in 1755 (Liber N.N.,folio 411). In similiar depoisitions he was 56 years old in 1738 (Liber I. B. No. 1, folio 116).

By his father's will he inherited 200 acres, part of "Belt's Posterity" in Baltimore County , at the head of Gunpowder River. The remaining 100 acres falling to his brother Joseph.

Benjamin Belt had a son named MIDDLETON BELT, later a distinctive name in this branch of the family, therefore it seems likely that Mrs Elizabeth Belt may have been a Middleton.
